Born in what many would call the “American Heartland”, the state of Iowa, which ranks first in the nation in many agricultural categories, to a family rooted deeply in the farming community, from the farm to the table, food has always been an integral part of my upbringing. Though we moved to Virginia for a short bit and eventually settled in Southern California, our roots and where we came from have always been an important part of family get-togethers, holidays, and to be quite honest each and every meal.
As a teenager my desire for fashion translated into Cosmetology school. Most of my 20s were spent working in salons in Southern California where diverse fashion is widely sought after and keeping up with the trends is an absolute must!
It wasn’t until I had a family of my own where cooking and baking landed on my shoulders that the influence of my family’s “Iowan” roots began to show. Most of it started with birthdays and holidays where the typical cakes, cupcakes and other baked goods seemed to be a hit among many which led to a stirring desire to dig deeper into other areas of cooking and culinary creativity.
For the last few years, trial and error, reading, watching, and earnestly seeking the “need to knows” about creating recipes and perfecting meals has just short of consumed this mom’s life! Having 4 children, 2 of whom are extremely picky, is a constant challenge when it comes to feeding and providing a healthy environment for our household. My husband is amazingly supportive and will try just about anything…….once. But only in the last year has sharing my living, breathing, literally, eating “addiction” become a constant desire.
I am by no means a culinary expert, a professional chef or critic. I am simply a lover of all things food and fashion with a regular day-to-day family life sharing my kitchen and closet with you.
Hope you love what you taste and see,
